Sara's Great Adventure - 1 year old (May 27, 2006) - Sheriff's Mounted Posse Training Course

Here we are after the first obstacle - the wall of fluttering tarps. She was a little scared when she first saw them, but after getting through it we are both quite happy with ourselves.

A pit of laundry detergent bottles did not even phase her after a few obstacles.

Here Sara inspects an old tattered flag. All we had to do was walk from one point to the other with it. This picture was taken at the end of that walk.

This time I made Sara stay on the other side of the obstacle while I went through and then asked her to follow. The obstacle is made up of swimming pool 'noodles' that they have to push through.

At this station we had to side pass down a pole. Since she had never been asked to side pass before we just took it slow.

Sara backs through an L.  Nothing new to her.  All my foals are taught to back readily.  You would be surprised at the things you can get them through or out of if they back easily.

The sheriff's posse considers this last obstacle the intimidator. It is made up of big steps, grates, and black rubber matting. All the things horses tend to be uncertain of. Here we are part way up the far side of it.

Standing on the top Sara seemed unimpressed and wondered if the palmetto was part of the obstacle.

She was very good about waiting for me to try to get down off the steps. They were not really meant for humans to try to climb.

But the big step does not even phase her.  My picture taker got too busy with her own horse and forgot to take pictures through the rest of the course until we were at the end.  Because of that you missed getting to see a lot of the fun.  We crossed a lot of stuff including several bridges, grates, tarps, mattresses, tires, lots of big pipes and even went inside a long dark tunnel.  The sheriff's posse members that were walking everyone through the course were very impressed with her and felt that she will make an amazing trail mount in the future.  Meanwhile, as much as she seemed to enjoy this, I may have to build her and my other foals a playground of their own!
